Unit Stills Photography

You don’t need me to tell you just how important it is to have a film stills photographer on set these days for marketing and promotion.

With the industry the way it is and social media especially playing such a key role in keeping eager fans up to speed on your production, having a photographer on site to capture those buzz-building moments is vital - whether it’s capturing key moments from that show-stopping scene or setting up shots for posters and promotional materials.

Of course, it’s not just publicity is not the only reason a stills photographer is needed on set, other departments within the production count on us to.

  • Visual Effects (VFX) often need reference or plate shots for their work.
  • Editors and Off-Set crew need to know who’s who and what’s been shot.
  • Continuity – Pick-up shots happen more often than not, and what better way of seeing exactly how things were set up the day before for example than with a still shot.
  • Second Unit Reporting – With larger crews that have a second director, a still photo is a quick and easy way for everyone to keep up to speed with what’s been shot.
